The parents of a six-year-old girl expelled from two primary schools in four months have criticised the education system for failing their youngster.
They claim their daughter - Nicola Hough, from Kings Norton in Birmingham - is autistic and is not receiving the special help she needs to enable her to continue in mainstream school.
Martin and Suzanne Hough are due to meet with education chiefs from Birmingham City Council on Monday to discuss their daughter's case.
Nicola was asked to leave her latest school after being accused of repeated bad behaviour, including banging desks and attacking another pupil with scissors.
Bad behaviour
She remains at home while her parents search for a school which will take their daughter.
They say the education system is too slow to help parents in their situation.
Mr Hough said Nicola was first excluded from Oaks Primary School in Druids Heath in October after teachers claimed she had been repeatedly disruptive.
But she attended her new school - St Jude's Catholic Primary in Maypole - for less than four months before being expelled last week following claims of bad behaviour.
'Special help'
He said: "In a letter we received from the school it said she banged the desk.
"She banged the desk because she is frustrated with the work they give her.
"School work doesn't test her mind enough and she gets bored very quickly.
"I think she needs special help. We are going through the procedure but it could take 12 months and that's 12 months out of her school life. Even then it is not certain she will get back to school.
"We have tried to get her into other schools but as soon as we say she has behavioural problems, they turn us down.
"Other parents in the same situation feel let down by the system. It is too slow."
Mr Hough said he was 99% certain Nicola was suffering from autism and that she was now undergoing tests to confirm the condition.

Re: Girl, 6, expelled twice
It can be extremley differcult to get the help your daughter needs so desperatly. It took me eighteen months to secure a placement at a school that could cater for my sons needs. The fight was unbelievable and i had become almost insane by the time he finally started again. I withdrew him from mainstream when he was 6 because he was violent towards kids and some staff bred out of the frustration he was feeling coping at mainstream.I didnt want him to have the stigma of being expelled as his behavior is due to his aspergers and not down to other reasons. The first place i contacted was ed welfare and told them that he was out of school whilst i looked for a suitable one. It helped because they have some resources available. Try it and see if it works for you.
