Its that time again- Time to get together and walk for a great cause!!! April 12th 2008, what are you all doing?
Walk Now for Autism, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program, is Autism Speaks signature fundraising and awareness event, taking place in communities across the United States, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.

Mansion Ride for AUTISM to Celebrate Its 7th Anniversary
|
 |
 |

Posted by lightfoot on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 (22:47:45)
On Sunday, June 8th, 2008 the Mansion Ride for AUTISM on Nassau County’s Gold Coast, will celebrate its 7th Anniversary. Cyclists of all levels will have their chance to raise Autism Awareness, and much needed funds for a worthy charity, the non-profit Ascent School for Children with Autism. Through rolling hills and tree-lined streets, the Mansion Ride's Rest Areas are at famous Public Mansions on Long Island's Gold Coast. Rest areas include Old Westbury Gardens, Cedarmere, Garvies Point, Bailey’s Arboretum, The Long Island Science Museum, and The Sands Point Preserve. Once homes to the rich and powerful first settlers to Long Island, these public mansions will continue their esteemed role in society by helping children in need, and opening their gates for all supporters of this urgent cause.
Creator and Co-chair of the Mansion Ride Elaine Del Valle-Eskanazy said this, “It will be our 7th annual event, and we are so proud to announce that this year we have garnered the support of Nassau County's Parks and Recreation Department. We are now a part of the HEALTHY NASSAU INITIATIVE. We are the only event of our kind to garner this support. What this means is that we will have even more mansions, and more cooperation from the county which will make for an even greater Mansion Ride.
Throughout the years Mansion Ride has raised and donated $300,000 to charity, in support of the education and treatment of children with Autism…100% of all its proceeds.
Linda Finkel, Mansion Ride co-Chair, commented, "This year we hope to tip the scales past a half a million dollars in total donations since the inception of the ride. We know that’s a big goal for our ride that averages about $50K per year, but we feel that the added prize incentives for highest fundraisers will go a long way. We managed to get a stay at GIANNI VERSACE’S South Beach Florida MANSION, amongst other great prizes. We hope our riders will be enthused by the opportunity to help a great cause and win a once in a lifetime prize like this.â€Â
“All the proceeds are donated to the charity. We are able to accomplish this through 100% volunteerism, and participation from local businesses. It takes a lot of food to feed an estimated 1000 riders through a 62-mile hilly journey, and we get it all donated. Just like the ride, we get a little from a lot of people and synergy takes over from there.â€Â
According to the CDC, Autism affects 1 in every 150 births, and 1 in every 94 boys. Most children with Autism are placed in group homes or institutions before reaching the age of 13. The Ascent School for Children with Autism’s mission is to provide research-based education and life enhancing services to individuals with autism and their families, while enabling them to lead more productive and independent lives.
The Mansion Riders will take-off at 7:45am on Sunday June 8, 2008. Registration is $35.00, but many choose to fundraise. Non-Riders can support the cause by making a Support-A-Rider Donation...All Available on-line at www.MansionRide.com. Participants can choose from easy or challenging routes of 16, 40 or 62 miles. Each rest stop will be at a fabulous Mansion and will feature all donated food and drink products from numerous corporate suppliers.
For complete details on how to contribute funds or participate in the ride, visit www.mansionride.com .
