I think it's a great . My child seems to speak more and interact with other children more when he is around normal children.

i am in T.I.E.S. at my high school. Teaching Interacting educating students. i am bacicly an assistant to autistic childeren in their main stream class. it verys on weather it is an approiate act to place a child in a main stream class. i know not all schools have this program but if you would like to know more about this program and my experiance please contact me at my e-mail at spasticspice52@yahoo.com or my name here at Liz2008 i would love to hear more

Our school has an excellent integration program, which is why I tend to think that it's a good idea. We've been blessed with teachers that are well trained and extremely patient with the kids. I don't know how other scools work, so I couldn't give a valid opinion on the other choice of good idea w/ more training, but I can understand that one as well. I'm not a big fan of keeping the children separated, because I believe that the sooner they learn to handle "normal" life, the better.

In my opinion, it is the most important thing we can do to help our general ed. students learn and love and autistic person...they will grow up to be a new generation of human beings...ones who do not discriminate.
